Prediction Giant Polymarket Pauses Trading After Third Party Breach

Polymarket briefly shut down trading on its international platform this Thursday following a security breach that originated with one of its external service providers. The pause lasted roughly an hour, during which the company worked to identify and resolve the vulnerability before resuming normal operations later in the afternoon. In a public statement, the prediction market operator explained that the decision to halt activity was made out of an abundance of caution to protect its users.

The disruption appears to be linked to DebugBear, a UK-based performance monitoring firm whose own website went offline during the incident. DebugBear acknowledged it had been hit by a security event and urged its clients to remove specific embed codes from their sites as a precautionary measure. While neither company has disclosed the full extent of the data or funds compromised, Polymarket confirmed it has already referred the matter to law enforcement agencies in the United Kingdom for further investigation.

To maintain trust among its user base, Polymarket promised via social media that any traders impacted by the glitch would be fully reimbursed. Although the exact number of affected accounts remains unclear, the company insisted that everyone who suffered losses due to the breach will be made whole. This incident serves as a stark reminder of how vulnerabilities in third party software can create ripple effects across major digital financial platforms.
