President Biden Calls for Two-State Solution for Palestinians: ‘Freedom from Hamas’

In an effort to end the long-standing conflict between Palestinians and Israel, U.S. President Joe Biden has recently stated his support for a two-state solution, ensuring that Palestinians receive their own state. This stance seeks to guarantee Palestinians living in the occupied territories basic human rights, while also preventing Hamas from maintaining control of the region.

The conflict between the two sides dates as far back as the mid-20th century. The Palestinian Liberation Organization and Israel have both claimed rights to the same piece of land, sparking decades of violence. Though some progress has been made, a lasting solution has yet to be achieved.

With the Biden administration now in office, hope has been renewed for peace in the Middle East. Biden has made it clear that the United States will have active involvement in the peace process. In a recent statement, Biden said that Palestinians deserve a state of their own and that direct negotiations between Israel and Palestine need to be encouraged in order to reach a two-state solution. At the same time, the President specifically mentioned that Hamas needs to be prevented from having a major foothold on Palestinian life.

As Biden begins to take meaningful action on this issue, we can be sure that serious talks and negotiations will soon begin. In the meantime, he has called for all sides to remain calm and adhere to the terms of a cease-fire, laid down by Egypt, Qatar and the United Nations.

Though it’s too soon to tell whether the Gaza conflict will be resolved anytime soon, Biden’s call for a two-state solution is a positive step towards peace in the area. With increased U.S. involvement, we can now have hope that a lasting, peaceful resolution to the conflict will be achieved.
