“UK PM Unwavering in Backing Israel: ‘Barbaric Acts’ Condemned

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and current Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, was unequivocal in his display of solidarity with the State of Israel in the wake of the ongoing war against Hamas. In a statement posted to Twitter, Johnson responded to the “very concerning” developments occurring in the region, urging an end to the violence.

He affirmed the United Kingdom’s solid stance against terrorism and condemned Hamas’ “barbaric” acts of violence, calling on all parties in the conflict to put an end to the conflict. He further emphasised the UK’s commitment to supporting a “secure and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians”.

The statement follows another statement on Tuesday condeming the surge of rocket fire from Hamas at civilians in Israel. The United Kingdom had reiterated its call for all parties to uphold international humanitarian law and protect civilians.

Discussing the violence seen across the region by Hamas, the Prime Minister noted his “deep concern” while affirming the UK’s unwavering support for the State of Israel:

“The UK stands shoulder to shoulder with Israel in defence of its right to defend itself against all forms of terrorism… we will always be unequivocal in our support of Israel’s right to security and self-defence”.

The Prime Minister’s strongest prior words were in a television interview last week where he described Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas’ attacks as “absolute and non-negotiable”.

The current conflict has resulted in a death toll of at least 144 Palestinians, including 39 children, as reported by the Palestinian Health Ministry, and ten Israelis, including two children.
over the past week.

Amid such horrific numbers, it is especially poignant to see a world leader publicly demonstrate sincere solidarity with the State of Israel alongside the call for peace. The United Kingdom has shown that it will not waiver in its support of Israel’s right to security and self-defence.
