The latest news on the 2024 GOP presidential primary poll is both alarming and exciting. President Donald Trump maintains a commanding lead in the competition with 36% of the vote, with other contenders slightly trailing behind.
Meanwhile, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has been gaining momentum as she garners 17% of the poll vote, making her even with Ron DeSantis, also at 17%. While this is surprising, it’s not totally unexpected as Haley and DeSantis have both been touring the country and spreading their messages in the last few months.
Haley wasn’t far behind DeSantis on the initial poll, but her recent performance at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) certainly put her in the spotlight. She has been pushing a message of economic nationalism which has resonated with conservatives and her strong stance against government overreach seems to have captured the attention of the GOP.
Meanwhile, other contenders such as former Vice President Mike Pence and former United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice have also made impressive showings in the poll. Currently languishing in the single digits, Pence has 9% of the vote, while Rice lags behind at 8%.
However, it isn’t all good news. Trump’s massive lead in the poll makes it difficult for other candidates to make any headway. In fact, many Republican strategists now believe the primary will turn into a Trump-vs.-Everyone-Else race sooner rather than later.
What is clear, however, is that the race for the Republican nomination in 2024 is already heating up. Trump and Haley remain the frontrunners, though DeSantis, Pence, and Rice have shown they have the potential to break through and join the fray. With plenty of time left until the actual campaign season, expect even more headlines and exciting developments in the coming months.
