The Biden administration’s top officials recently attempted to engage in a cover-up that involved a Chinese spy balloon being launched, according to a report released Wednesday by Congress.
The balloon was launched from Xinjiang, a Chinese province that has been a hotbed of human rights violations, on February 14, shortly after President Biden took office, according to an analysis conducted by the Federation of American Scientists.
The balloon was carrying a number of suspicious devices intended to collect information from the United States, including a GPR (ground-penetrating radar) system, advanced satellite imagery receivers, and communication relays.
The balloon’s entry point was a rural part of Washington State, and it was revealed to the public by a private citizen who reported it to local media.
In response to the story, federal officials attempted to downplay the seriousness of the situation and even attempted to conceal the information from the public.
Furthermore, officials at the State and Defense Departments reportedly tried to keep the story out of the news, despite legislation requiring them to fully disclose any foreign threats.

Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., who serves on the House Armed Services Committee, said in a statement that the attempted cover-up “raises serious questions about the Biden administration’s priorities and intent.”
He added: “It is difficult to believe that the Administration would try to keep American citizens in the dark regarding the Chinese Communist Party’s activities. It is equally difficult to believe they would prioritize the interests of the CCP over the interests of the American people.”
The Biden administration has yet to issue a formal response to the report, but officials have said that they are actively investigating the matter and are being as transparent as possible.
The attempted cover-up of the Chinese spy balloon is yet another example of the Biden administration’s lack of transparency and inability to properly handle foreign threats.
